Who are we?

A community of practice involving health and educational commissioners, teenage pregnancy coordinators, education advisers and specialsits, school heads and managers, teachers, health professionals and young people who are involved with the delivery of relationships education that we all believe will help young people to more successful, enjoyable and healthier sexual careers.

Key members of and collaborators with the Apause team include:

Dr John Tripp. (MD) Recently a Senior Clinical Lecturer at the Peninsula Medical School of the Universities of Exeter and Plymouth and Consultant Paediatrician at the Royal Devon & Exeter NHS Foundation Trust. Originated Apause as a result of a long term interest in the health of young people in their teenage years both with chronic illness and without. David Evans. (MEd) A trained actor and science teacher who set up Imule [link] as a cross cultural theatre company and is now an expert in the theory and practice of peer to peer learning. He uses the conventions of drama to encode and enable reproduction of performances which enable young people to develop healthier beliefs and behaviours using social cognitive theory as the basis for interventon development.

Mohammed Amooie Foumeny (PhD). A trained scientist and expert in IT who manages the development and carrying out of quantitative evaluation of all of the HBG programs and is the web developer and webmaster.

Robin Jackson (PhD). A senior manager at the Innovation Centre of the University of Exeter has overseen the transition from a project within the University and the Peninsula Medical School to an independent trading charity. 

Gareth James (MBA), a management consultant has been working as a consultant with the University and the HBG over the past 18 months to asssit the transition and develop strategies and the business plan. He has extensive previous expereince in the private and public sector with postgraduate qualifications in education and business management.

Gemma Howell BA (Hons), our administrator, is a qualified primary school teacher who has recent experience with a local PCT as an administrator. She has utilised these skills to properly organise the office and day to day financial control. We have asked her to take a particular interest in possible developments for key stage 2 pupils, about which we have been approached for advice.

Jane Lock has worked with the team for several years. Starting in a very junior role she is now an essential member of the team. As clerk Jane knows all our users in commissioning authorities and schools and personalises our service to them particularly in relation to supply of materials.
