Peer educators

  Peer Benefits

Volunteer peer educators in Apause have traditionally come from post 16 education in ’sixth forms’ (year 12) either in schools or colleges of further education.  They are not specially chosen or selected and include high flying university aspirants and groups from Health and Social Care NVQs - this variety allows better identification with learners and a wider skill mix

Their motivations vary hugely and include ’having a bit of fun’; wanting to improve their records of achievement or CV; following up a decision made when they are learners in year 9; altruistic motivations of wanting to help younger people.  After training altruistic motivation is dramatically increased but reasons for recommendation to others emphasise personal benefits and enjoyment.
